There are many ways to offer your time and talent if you feel called to do so. The following list offers a broad range of opportunities should you feel so moved. Please let us know and we would be glad to speak with you further as you continue to discern your path. If you are simply seeking solace, quiet, worship, and a place to refresh and renew your soul, we honor that too. The offering of your self and spirit, as we dwell together in the sacred and the mysterious, is gift enough. You will never be compelled to take on a formal role, though our long experience continues to remind us of the enormous breadth of gifts and skills and heartfelt passions which forever cross our threshold:
Altar Guild: The Altar Guild helps to lovingly prepare our sacred space for worship of all forms, most importantly in preparation for Sunday worship and other sacramental celebrations.
Worship: Prayer Leaders, Lectors (those who read the Lessons), LEMs (those who are trained and licensed to assist more formally at worship, known as Lay Eucharistic Ministers), LEVs (those who are formally trained and licensed to take communion to shut-in and homebound persons, known as Lay Eucharistic Visitors), and Acolytes (those who assist in a variety of ways at the Altar on Sunday morning).
Hospitality: Greeters at each service, as persons join us at church. Ushers, who assist with the flow of the service and guide visitors as needed. Coffee Servers, who offer hospitality and refreshments after both the 8 AM and 10 AM service, and on special occasions such as a Bishop’s Visitation.
Children’s Ministry Team: please see the section on Christian Formation for further opportunities and hopes.
Outreach: please see the section on St. Luke’s in the Wider World for current and emerging opportunities to serve in the wider world.
Buildings and Grounds: If you enjoy upkeep, gardening, sprucing up and in-house service projects, your skills, talents and energy are most welcome.
Interfaith Ministries: The Episcopal Churches in Worcester work together on a variety of shared projects and occasional worship services. In addition, the city is filled with both needs and response, from a wide variety of non-profit, charitable, faith based and civic organizations. We would be happy to help you find a place where your gifts and passions feel most needed.
